Sell your presets and LUTs to the people who ask about your edits
If people comment "what preset is this?" under your photos or "what LUT do you use?" under your videos, you already have demand. Presets are small files, quick to package and easy to show off, because every post you make is a demonstration. This page covers formats, packaging, pricing and how to cut down support questions.
Updated
Which preset files should I include?
Include every format your buyers need to install the look on the apps they use. For Lightroom that means XMP files for Lightroom Classic and desktop, plus DNG files for the free Lightroom mobile app. For video, export LUTs as CUBE files, which work in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve and CapCut.
A complete preset pack usually contains:
- /Desktop: one .xmp file per preset, named clearly ("Golden Hour Warm.xmp", not "Preset 7.xmp").
- /Mobile: one .dng file per preset; buyers open each in Lightroom mobile and save its settings as a preset.
- /LUTs (if you sell video looks): .cube files at 33-point size, the most widely supported.
- Install guide.pdf: two pages with screenshots for desktop and for phone.
- Read me first.pdf: your licence, tips on adjusting exposure and white balance, and how to get help.
Zip the whole folder into one file. Keep the ZIP under 100 MB; a preset pack is usually a few megabytes unless you include sample photos.
How many presets should a pack have?
Between 5 and 15 is the sweet spot. Fewer than five feels thin for a paid pack; more than 15 usually means near-duplicates that make choosing harder. Build the pack around one look or one situation, such as moody interiors, beach weddings or night streets, so each preset earns its place and buyers can picture using all of them.
Give each preset a variant for tricky light: a "warm" and a "cool" version, or a "bright" and a "dark" version, covers far more photos than ten unrelated looks. Test every preset on at least 20 photos from different cameras and phones before you ship.
How should I price presets?
Most preset packs sell for £12 to £35. Single presets work well as a free lead magnet or a £3 to £5 taster. Video LUT packs and combined photo-and-video bundles sit higher, often £25 to £49, because they save editors hours per project.
Ways to structure an offer:
- Free: one signature preset in exchange for an email address.
- Core pack: 10 presets at £19. You keep £18.51 on a UK card.
- Order bump: the matching mobile-only or LUT pack at £7 during checkout.
- Bundle: two or three packs together at roughly the price of two.
A launch code such as PRESETS25 for 25% off, ending after 72 hours, gives your post a reason to act now.
How do I show what my presets do?
Show before-and-after pairs, because buyers are paying for the change, not the file. Use a split image as your cover, with the original on one side and the edited version on the other, and keep the split in the middle so it still reads as a small square on your store.
In the product description, list each preset by name with the light it suits: "Harbour: overcast coastal days" or "Neon: city streets after dark". Post short videos of a photo switching through the presets and link to the product from the caption or your bio. Add reviews from buyers that mention their camera or phone, because that answers the most common doubt: "will this work on my photos?"
How do buyers get and install the presets?
They pay on your product page and download the ZIP straight away, with a receipt email linking to their access page for later. Most install problems come from buyers trying to open a ZIP on a phone, so tell them in your description to download on a computer, or explain how to unzip in the Files app.
Write your install guide for someone who has never installed a preset. Screenshots of each tap in Lightroom mobile save you dozens of DMs. If you update the pack, upload the new ZIP and every past buyer can download it from their access page.
Do I charge VAT on presets?
Presets are standard-rated digital products, so if you are VAT registered in the UK you charge 20%. Set that in stall.bio's Payments page and choose whether your listed price includes it; the receipt shows the VAT amount. If you are not registered, which applies below £90,000 of yearly taxable turnover, you charge none.
Buyers in the EU are charged VAT at their own country's rate once you are selling to them as a UK business, which stall.bio's single store rate does not work out for you. If EU buyers are a big part of your sales, get advice on registering for the One Stop Shop.
Example: a wedding photographer sells a mobile pack
Sofia shoots weddings and shares edits on Instagram. Her store has three products:
- "Soft Film" single preset, free, as a lead magnet. The DNG and a one-page install guide.
- "Soft Film Collection", 12 presets for desktop and mobile, at £24, with a "was" price of £32 during launch week.
- "Soft Film LUTs" for her Reels, offered as an order bump at £9.
Her cover is a before-and-after split of the same bride under grey skies. Each preset is listed by name with the light it suits. Sofia is a made-up example.

Questions, answered
Do presets work on every photo?
No preset works perfectly on every photo, and buyers trust you more when you say so. Tell them to adjust exposure and white balance first, then apply the preset. Variants for warm and cool light, and a short guide to tweaking, cut refund requests sharply.
Can buyers use my presets on client work?
That is your choice, set out in your licence. Most preset sellers allow use on personal and paid client photos, and forbid reselling or sharing the preset files themselves. Put the licence in the read-me file and a one-line summary in your product description.
Are Lightroom mobile presets free to use?
Yes. Buyers can install DNG presets in the free version of Lightroom mobile without a subscription: they open the DNG, copy its settings and save them as a preset. Desktop XMP files need Lightroom Classic or Lightroom desktop.
